We may on occasion consider internal applicants on a secondment basis for fixed term roles at The Scouts. This is where we appoint you for a fixed term role and keep your substantive post open for you to return to when your secondment is finished. We may have to back fill your substantive post on a fixed term basis until you return and this may leave teams short staffed, either for a short time while we recruit, or for a long time should we not recruit someone to back fill the role. Data Privacy Statement
This form is used to collect information about you for the purpose of assessing your application for a role at The Scout Association, and is done so under the lawful basis of performance of a contract.  Your information will be stored securely on a third party system called Talos 360, and only accessed by relevant staff. Information about successful candidates will be retained for six years after their employment has ended. Information about unsuccessful candidates will be retained for six month after the decision is made, unless they opt in to join the talent pool. Data will be held on the talent pool for two years, and will be used to contact people about future vacancies that may be of interest to them.  Location:  Gilwell Park, London – hybrid working with 2 days in the office

 Contract Type: Fixed term for 8 Months

 Working Hours:  Full-time (35 hours per week)

 About The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to lead our Financial Accounting, Payroll and Transactions teams, ensuring strong financial controls, compliance, statutory reporting, treasury management, and high-quality financial services across the organisation.

As the Financial Controller, you will (Key Responsibilities):                                                                           

  • Lead our financial accounting, payroll and transactions teams.
  • Oversee day-to-day finance operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and banking.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting and timely month-end processes.
  • Manage the preparation of annual accounts and support the external audit process.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, VAT and corporation tax requirements.
  • Maintain strong financial controls and identify opportunities to improve processes and systems.
  • Monitor cash flow, oversee treasury activities and support investment reporting.
  • Partner with budget holders and senior leaders, providing financial guidance and support.
  • Develop and motivate a high-performing finance team.

Who we’re looking for as our Financial Controller:

  • A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Strong experience in financial accounting, audit or financial control.
  • Experience leading and developing teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Experience within the charity, not-for-profit or public sector is welcome but not essential.
